Great Yarmouth Library hosted Our Freedom, Our Place, a lively two‑day programme celebrating both the town’s first year in its new library building and its contribution to Our Freedom: Then and Now. The events were delivered in partnership with the American Library team and Reel Connections CIC, bringing together local heritage, music, film and hands‑on creativity.

On Friday 19 December, visitors were invited to explore Great Yarmouth’s cultural history through a series of themed sessions. The day opened with The Beatles in Great Yarmouth from Reel Connections CIC, followed by a poetry workshop inspired by the themes of Freedom Road. The evening concluded with a Record Club Special, How Norfolk Got the Blues, offering a musical journey through the county’s past.

Saturday continued the celebrations with a family‑friendly programme. Reel Connections CIC presented Seaside Showtime, before audiences took part in a Make Do and Mend workshop and a Get Crafty session for children and families. The day rounded off with an archive film screening of Great Yarmouth – It’s Got the Lot, giving visitors a chance to reflect on the town’s rich heritage.

All activities were free and open to drop‑in visitors, encouraging the community to explore local stories, share memories and engage creatively with the theme of freedom. The weekend formed part of Our Freedom: Then and Now, a UK‑wide arts and heritage programme marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, supported by Arts Council England and delivered with thanks to Reel Connections CIC.
