Join the wider Matlock community for a day of celebration, music, arts and history in the shadow of the historic Smedley’s Hydro building.

For all ages and free to attend, SmedFest will bring together artists, musicians, indie businesses and artisans, and the local community to get creative and connect together.

Throughout the day, enjoy free live music, and join artists RICE, Bella Figura and storytellers from Adverse Camber – along with many more – for free creative activities and to learn more about the Secret Freedoms project at LEVEL Centre, inspired by Matlock’s fascinating World War II history – home to the School of Military Intelligence, and the Matlock Secret Army!

As part of this project, LEVEL will also be exploring the role the disabled and learning disabled community played during and after WWII – stories which are often not documented publicly – and how the freedoms of those who are disabled and learning disabled are often secretive to this day

Smedfest is hosted by a hard-working team of local volunteers and aims to inspire the community to get creative in their local area.
