What does freedom mean to us today? Through art workshops that highlight the inclusivity of library spaces, and the freedom to be found in creativity, Libraries Unlimited (Devon) have invited local people to reflect on freedom, past and present, to create artworks rooted in their own community stories.

In Barnstaple, the artworks centre around finding peace and freedom in the face of our own challenges. Families, children, and groups that include Flying Fish Artists – a drop-in art group for wellbeing – and the Memory Café have created art based on their own experiences and dreams of freedom.

These reflections will culminate in beautiful co-created artworks with artist Athena Jane Churchill displayed in each library in Barnstaple, Newton Abbot, and Exeter, with a final showcase in Exeter uniting three distinct communities across Devon as their artworks combine into one thought provoking piece.

Come and see the evocative artwork, share what makes you feel free, and be part of the celebration.
