Alongside their VE Day film, An Tobar and Mull Theatre are offering creative workshops for young people to compose, record, produce and sync an original soundtrack, culminating in a live performance at the film’s premiere.

Through this process, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the film’s vision and story, working closely with the director, exploring timing, and learning how sound can shape storytelling.

The workshops will introduce students to storyboarding and research, encouraging them to translate ideas and themes into sound. Together, they will experiment with describing sound in words, then move into composing their own pieces for the soundtrack.

Once the music is created, students will be guided through editing, mixing and syncing their work to picture, learning how sound and image combine to create emotion and meaning on screen.

The project will culminate in a premiere, where the film will be screened with part of the soundtrack performed live by the young composers themselves.

Workshops will take place on 28 October, and 4, 11, and 18 November.
