Created in collaboration with communities from Bridport and the surrounding areas of Dorset, From and To by Laura Eldret is both an exhibition of creative freedoms as well as a space for those freedoms to be explored together.
Exploring the idea of having ‘freedom from’ and ‘freedom to’ as distinct forms of freedom, gallery walls are dedicated to an evolving display of forms of ‘creative freedoms’ shared by members of the community and gallery visitors, alongside a community honesty shop. There is also an accompanying programme of events and making sessions (on Wednesdays and Saturdays), and the gallery space is being offered for free use by the community as a site for creativity from busking to pickle-making sessions, band practice to community group meet-ups.
When thinking of creativity as a freedom – and relating this to the freedoms fought for in the past and today – creativity more clearly become an essential need and right for everyone.
There is an opening weekend taking place on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12 October, and the exhibition will be open from Tuesdays – Saturdays until 15 November. Pop up events and workshops will take place every Wednesday and Saturday.
