Storyhouse worked with residents across Winsford to explore what freedom means to the community today. Through workshops, photography, writing, and collaborative making, they helped bring together voices of all ages and backgrounds, culminating in a manifesto and exhibition created by Winsford, for Winsford.
A Community Manifesto for Winsford
As part of Our Freedom, Storyhouse collaborated with writer Lekhani Chirwa, local community groups, and schools to explore questions of freedom: What does it mean? What does it look like? Who is it for? The resulting Manifesto for Freedom, shaped by the diverse experiences of Winsford residents, was launched at a community celebration. Alongside the manifesto, young photographers presented an exhibition of striking images reflecting on freedom and the future. Visitors were invited to head to Winsford Library to view the full exhibition.
Banners Inspired by Winsford’s Voices
Artists from Art in the Place created banners that captured the ideas, stories, and experiences gathered throughout the project. These banners served as a lasting visual representation of the manifesto and the many voices woven into it.
Our Freedom, Our Future
Storyhouse also delivered Our Freedom, Our Future, a creative session inviting Winsford residents to reflect on their experiences and hopes for the years ahead. Through discussion and making, participants contributed to a wider portrait of how the community understands freedom – past, present, and future.
